Program Notes: “Rock On!” is a short work I wrote in order to try and recreate, at least in my mind, the initial impression that Adam Schoenberg’s music had on me upon first listen. Some of the musical qualities that originally stuck out in such pieces as “Reflecting Light” and “Up” were as follows: full-bodied sounds, a minimalist aesthetic, bright optimism, cinematic flair, and fully embracing 20th and 21 century tonalities and landscapes, all while retaining a certain respect and consideration for the rich tradition of classical composition.
